La Gloria Cubana Trunk Show 2012 Liga YG-23

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sumatra Especiale

Binder: Nicaraguan

Filler: Dominican & Nicaraguan

Size: 7×60

Pre Light

The wrapper of the Trunk Show 2012 has minimal veins and a light oil sheen to its milk chocolate cover.  The band of this cigar is coated with vegetable die which allows you to smoke right through it.  I’m usually not a fan of the big ring gage cigars but this one sounded interesting so I decided to give it a try.  With a quick punch cut the cigar is opened up and the draw is nice with notes of spice and earth on the cold draw.

1st Third

The cigar opens up with a little Nicaraguan zing but the pepper factor drops off after a quarter inch and gives way to flavors of earth and wood.  The cigar puts off lots of heavy white smoke and has a very nice room aroma to it.

2nd Third

I’m still getting the wood and earth in the second third with notes of tobacco coming through here and there.  The burn line has been sharp and cool to the touch.  I haven’t needed to relight or touch up and the ash comes right off with a light tap on the side of the ashtray.

Final Third

The pepper starts to pick up in the final third.  When I reach the band I start to get a sort of tea leaf or grassy flavor.  The burning band looks really cool against the ash.  The cigar burned right through and didn’t hinder the integrity of the construction.

I haven’t been a really fan of La Gloria Cubana but I really enjoyed this cigar even in its big ring gage size. The construction was perfect and the idea with the band was a cool idea and added some flavor to it in my uneducated opinion.  The flavors were nice all the way through.  I know these were a limited release but I’m going to have to run back over to the shop I grabbed these and grab some more.

Keep em burnin’

  2. Nice review. I’ve been wanting to try one if these, but havent found them locally. Its interesting how the band changes the flavor some.
