Oliva V Melanio

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sumatra

Binder: Nicaraguan

Filler: Nicaraguan

Size: Petit Corona 4 ½ x 46

Pre Light

This little smoke has a nice marbled brown wrapper with a sweet aroma and a box pressed finish.  The wrapper has an aroma of sweet hay and pepper and the cigar has a good in hand feel with the box pressed shape.  The cigar has the original Oliva V band but is joined by a second band with the same colors and design.  The second band has the word Melanio written across it.  The wrapper doesn’t have any significantly large veins in it and has a slight sheen of oil on it.

1st Third

The cigar opens up with that Nicaraguan pepper but is not too overpowering.   I then start to get notes of coffee with a light taste of nuts in the background.  I find that box pressed cigars always feel better on the lips with the draw but that’s just my opinion.

2nd Third

I’m still getting the same coffee flavor but the nutty flavors from the start of the cigar have faded and been replaced with a dull cocoa flavor.  The burn is cool and even with tons of heavy gray smoke coming off of every drag.

Final Third

The coffee flavor seems to be this cigars main focus as it’s been the main flavor throughout the entire smoke.  The cigar smoked all the way to the nub without any relights or touch ups and stayed cool all the way down.

The Melanio wasn’t as strong as the original Oliva V maduro but still had some kick to it.  It wasn’t really that complex though.  Don’t get me wrong it was tasty but the flavors didn’t change much during the entire smoking experience.  But give them a try if you can find a few.

Keep em burnin’

  1. Hey Griff I couldn’t agree more it was a very good cigar but honestly I think I got better flavor out of the Core V line. I like that its not as strong in the power factor, I will pick up some more of these and give them a shot.

Great review Griff. I can not put my finger on exactly why, but for some reason I just am not a fan of any of the Oliva cigars. Hey, that’s just me! Keep up the great work.
